NovaStar VX600 Pro or VX1000 Pro?
Published
The same box with the same inputs. Choose by how many pixels the wall has, and how many it may have later.

The NovaStar VX600 Pro and VX1000 Pro share one chassis and one input set: 1U, an HDMI 2.0 input up to 4096 × 2160 at 60 Hz (8-bit), two HDMI 1.3, one 3G-SDI, USB 3.0 playback from a drive, six 2K layer resources, and a width of up to 10,240 pixels or a height of up to 8,192. What differs is capacity. The VX600 Pro is rated at 3.9 million pixels on 6 Gigabit Ethernet ports; the VX1000 Pro at 6.5 million on 10 ports. NovaStar rates each port at 650,000 pixels (8-bit). So count the wall: under about 3.9 million pixels the VX600 Pro carries it; above that, up to 6.5 million, the VX1000 Pro; beyond that, a larger controller. Both are quoted by PixelPro Productions in Anaheim, California; the VX1000 Pro is in stock.

How to choose, in four steps
Inputs and software are the same, so the choice is arithmetic:
- Count the wall’s pixels: cabinets across × cabinets down × the pixels in one cabinet. A 500 × 500 mm P2.6 cabinet is 192 × 192 pixels; a 640 × 480 mm P2.5 cabinet is 256 × 192.
- Compare with the rating: 3.9 million for the VX600 Pro, 6.5 million for the VX1000 Pro. Both stop at 10,240 pixels wide or 8,192 high.
- Count ports, not just pixels: each Gigabit port carries up to 650,000 pixels, and a cabinet cannot be split across two ports. A wall close to the rating may need one port more than the arithmetic says; we check the port map before ordering.
- Leave room to grow: if the wall may get wider, or a second screen may be added, the VX1000 Pro has four more ports in the same 1U box.
1. Just under a VX600 Pro: Redondo Beach
A living-room wall, 3 × 2 m of P1.25 COB, is 2400 × 1600 = 3.84 million pixels. That sits just under the VX600 Pro’s 3.9 million, and its HDMI 2.0 input takes the Apple TV directly.

2. Over 3.9 million: two church screens in Irvine
Two screens of 7 × 6 P2.5 cabinets are 84 cabinets of 256 × 192 pixels, about 4.13 million pixels. That is over the VX600 Pro’s rating, so the job needs a box in the 6.5-million class; it runs on one VX1000, which has the same rating as the VX1000 Pro.

Side by side, from NovaStar’s documents
- Loading capacity: VX600 Pro: 3,900,000 pixels. VX1000 Pro: 6,500,000 pixels. Both up to 10,240 px wide or 8,192 px high (VX600 Pro)
- Ethernet outputs: VX600 Pro: 6 × Gigabit. VX1000 Pro: 10 × Gigabit. Each port up to 650,000 pixels (8-bit). Both add 2 × 10G optical (VX1000 Pro)
- Inputs: Both: 1 × HDMI 2.0 up to 4096 × 2160 @ 60 Hz (8-bit), 2 × HDMI 1.3, 1 × 3G-SDI, USB 3.0 playback, no DVI (VX600 Pro)
- Layers: Both: 6 × 2K layer resources; a 4K layer uses 4 (VX1000 Pro)
- Box: Both 1U, 482.6 × 302.2 × 50.1 mm, 3.9 kg, 0–50 °C. VX600 Pro 41 W, VX1000 Pro 43 W (VX600 Pro)

Figures are NovaStar’s: the VX600 Pro and VX1000 Pro All-in-One Controller Specifications V1.0.1, read twice. The 650,000 pixels per port are at 8-bit.
If a source is DVI, neither Pro takes it without an adapter; see VX1000 or VX1000 Pro. If the wall is over 6.5 million pixels, start with Which NovaStar processor do I need.
Send us the cabinet model and layout. We will count the pixels, map the ports and tell you which box, in writing, before you buy.
Questions about the VX600 Pro and VX1000 Pro
What is the difference between the NovaStar VX600 Pro and VX1000 Pro?
Capacity and ports. The VX600 Pro is rated at 3.9 million pixels on 6 Gigabit Ethernet ports; the VX1000 Pro at 6.5 million on 10. The chassis, inputs (HDMI 2.0 4K60, two HDMI 1.3, 3G-SDI, USB 3.0) and six 2K layer resources are the same.
How many pixels can one VX600 Pro drive?
Up to 3,900,000, with the wall no wider than 10,240 pixels or taller than 8,192. A 3 × 2 m P1.25 wall at 2400 × 1600 (3.84 million) is just inside it.
How many pixels does one Ethernet port carry?
NovaStar rates each Gigabit port on the VX Pro controllers at 650,000 pixels at 8-bit. Cabinets are not split across ports, so in practice a port carries a little less.
Does the VX1000 Pro have better inputs than the VX600 Pro?
No. Both have the same HDMI 2.0 input up to 4096 × 2160 at 60 Hz (8-bit), two HDMI 1.3, one 3G-SDI and USB 3.0 playback. Neither has DVI.
